After you learn about the many way Dot Patterns are helping students create an internal visual and an experience of quantity, you may quickly notice there is some variation in Dot Pattern design.

In this article I’ll help clarify the similarities and differences, so you can make an informed choice on which Dot Pattern design you want to use in your math instruction, and some things to consider in this choice.

If you haven’t yet read my previous article, “How to Begin Building Number-Sense,” please start there. It will provide a necessary description for Dot Patterns before choosing which to use in your math instruction.
